So Ty posted something on his Facebook status yesterday that really hit home. It was a motivational quote that read “It’s okay to try and fail but it’s not okay to fail to try.” Important words there.

We all try things that don’t work out. In fact, the music business is largely an exercise in accepting rejection. You send out demo after demo, make phone call after phone call and never see any results. You play shows in rooms full of people and then go home with only a few dollars in your pocket at the end of the night.

Those nights are disappointing to say the least. We go home, put our gear away and wonder why in the hell we put ourselves through this pain. It’s then that we have to make the most crucial choice we can make… Do we keep pushing or do we stop?

Well, I don’t know about the rest of you but I know when I get down, it’s easy to say “Hey, why don’t I just quit?” Still, if I let myself fall into that way of thinking for very long, how far am I going to get?

Like Aerosmith said, “If you do what you always did, you’ll always get what you always got.” When things aren’t working, it’s time to try something new. Instead of sitting around feeling depressed, think up some new methods of marketing your act. Try adding something new to your shows. Try sending demos to that label that you think will never give you the time of day.

Why? Because when you keep trying, you have a chance. When you stop and just decide to accept things as they are, that’s as far as you are ever going to go. You have to KEEP PUSHING ON NO MATTER WHAT HAPPENS!

So what are you going to do? How are you going to make the changes to get where you want to be? What can we do to help you? Share your thoughts and questions here please.
